The Devon league team got their campaign off to a flying start with a comprehensive win away at Crediton. With 3 points awarded for an away win the ladies took full advantage by winning 4 out of the 6 matches to record an excellent 12 - 4 win.
They then followed this with a 9 - 4 ½ win at home against Thurlestone to sit in an excellent position after their opening matches.
The Devon friendly league team bounced back from an opening defeat at Saunton to win 5 ½ - 1 ½ at home to Libbaton and followed that by recording an impressive 4 ½ - 2 ½ win away to Torrington.
The Portmore Ladies Open was recently held at the club and around 60 ladies from 17 different clubs took part. With nice weather and the course in first class condition the scoring was excellent.
The winning team of Leah Webber, Jill Brown (both Portmore) and Jo Wills (Ilfracombe) recorded 81 points in the best 2 out of 3 team format.
Portmore Mens Section
The paliariet team, led by club captain Alan Huxtable, lost a tight encounter to Teign Valley at Bovey Castle. On a day of tough conditions the match was evenly poised and really could have gone either way but in the end Teign Valley were victorious 3 - 2 and so now the team look forward to the North Devon Rosebowl match against Willingcott at Saunton.

Well done to Amanda Webber and Alison West who won their Doris Wills Little match against the Warren at Crediton.
Playing in a foursomes format they were 4 down after 12 holes but battled back in tremendous style to win the match on the 18th hole to go through to the next round.
Congratulations to Heather Crawthorne on winning the Devon Ladies Bronze Open at Crediton and to Kay Pile for winning the captains prize.
There is now a drop zone on the 8th hole on the Barum course, it is optional to use this but can be used when a tee shot from the white, yellow and red tees enters the hazard in front of you.
It has been put there to stop people taking an illegal drop and to protect the ladies tee.
Congratulations to Colin and his green staff who undertook a golf course maintenance programme at the start of March. Thanks to all their hard work and some much-needed rain we are all benefiting from 2 golf courses in fantastic condition.
I'm sure we all appreciate what a difficult job they have and hope they can take pride in their efforts.
I hope you have enjoyed this first Portmore news letter and if you have any news you think may be of interest to go in the June edition then please let me know.
