Portmore Club Professional Darren Everett and amateur partner Paul Ackland are celebrating after winning the regional qualifier of the National Pro-am Tournament.

The Tournament is the biggest Pro-am event in Europe and the duo beat a field of 50 pairs over the East Course at Saunton to secure a place in the Grand Final which takes place at the Antalaya Golf Resort in Turkey from November 30th - December 4th.

In perfect playing conditions but with some tricky pin positions the pair shot a 7 under par 64 to snatch victory by 1 shot.

The pair started with a bogey on the first but went on to play the remaining holes in 8 under with some superb putting from both players.

Darren said " walking off the first green with a bogey wasn't a great start but I turned to Paul and said that many a great round had started with a bogey and I guess this was one of them. I honestly think that the front 9 Paul played was the best 9 holes of golf I've seen by an Amateur golfer, he was immense, especially as I wasn't quite firing. Thankfully I found my form on the back 9 and we kept each other going really well.
We started to think we had a great chance when I holed from 30 feet for a birdie on the 14th to get to 7 under and although we had disappointing 3 putts for pars on the 15th and 16th we were really happy with our performance. The hardest part of the day was waiting for two hours to see if our score would be good enough, but thankfully it was and we can now look forward to an all expenses paid 5 star trip to contest the Grand Final"

Paul who had won the clubs qualifying round in March was equally thrilled by the victory, he said " I've never really won anything before so this is just brilliant, I felt great with my game through the front 9 and when I came unstuck through the back 9 Darren stepped up and got the job done. We gelled as a pair perfectly. I'm looking forward to the Final Immensely although it will take a bit of time for our achievement to sink in "

The duo will be one of 15 pairs who will contest the 36 hole final over the PGA Sultan Course at the Antalaya Resort.
