Playing against Dartmouth in the semi final the ladies had a real battle with the overall result changing with every hole played.
As the matches came to a close the score stood at 3 matches all with only one match left out on the course.
Portmores Janice Sweetman in her first year playing in the league team showed a massive amount of courage and determination to win the deciding match on the 17th green and set up a final against Fingle Glen who had defeated Saunton in the other semi final.
The final was always going to be a really tight match with both teams knowing each other well.
As the matches turned in to the back 9 it was indeed looking as though it could go either way with both teams playing some excellent golf.
Then just as it looked like Fingle were going to do enough for victory Amanda Webber showed huge grit and determination to win her match down the 19th and Karen Thomas sealed another Portmore win on the 18th to set up a 3-3 score line with only one match left out there which again like the morning involved Janice Sweetman.
With a renewed confidence following her morning heroics Janice managed to win the 17th to get herself back to all square on the 18th tee to set up a quite dramatic finish to the final.
Both players hit excellent tee shots under huge pressure from the watching spectators and it looked all the world like they were heading down the 19th before Fingle managed to hole a putt for victory and therefore deny Portmore a 3rd win in the competition.
Despite defeat the ladies can be very proud of their achievements and I’m sure they will be eager to reach their 5th Finals day in a row next year.
Many thanks to all the caddies and supporters who helped make the day such an enthralling event.
