The Portmore Junior Team made a great start to the defence of their North Devon League Title by finishing runners up at the first meeting of the new season at Torrington Golf Club.

The format this year has changed slightly with now only the best 4 out of 6 scores counting towards the team total.This has been changed to help other clubs who struggle to put out a full team.

Led by Junior Captain Sam Southon the team all played superb golf around a tricky Torrington layout. They managed to record scores of 37,40,40 and 41 towards the team total giving them a 14 under par total of 158 stableford points.

Usually this would be good enough for victory but Libbaton took top spot by recording a total of 162.A superb score made even better by the fact they only had 4 members in their team,well done to them.

The Portmore team can take a lot of confidence from their performance and will head into the next meeting in May looking to go one better. A special well done to Hayden Morris who played his first ever league match and also had to play off 28 instead of his usual 30 and still managed to record 34 points,one to look out for in the future.Also a well done to Sam and Im sure with him as Captain we can look forward to more success this season.
